"a new voluptuousness will blossom forth and replace love." -Tristan Tzara.
my man marcel was right. our entire value system is predicated on a con. hyped by marketing professionals, a meme germinates like weeds and squeezes the life out of us.
all anyone needs is money. money, in turn, is valueless. another con.
all that is necessary is authority. yet another dupe. there is no real authority.
we agree to a set of accepted values and they become valuable. the protection of absolute value enables an authoritarian system. via those values, we are manipulated to become a means to an end, an end that is not of our own choosing.
the truth is, to me, that there is a value that each individual has. it is known only to them. it is up to each individual to discover this in themselves.
the absolute value robs the individual of his/her sovereignty, and replaces it with an empty lie.
i suppose that the illusion of absolute value acts as a respite from the fear of death. i empathize with that fear, but death always comes, and the dignity of one’s last breath should be the defining principle of life. (or whatever one feels it should be)
ON THE RIDICULOUS NOTION OF THE CULTURAL DEFENDER.
at this point, you have to be deluded to think that there really is such a thing as culture that needs to be defended.
culture is just a bunch of people who decided to pay attention to a person or persons who, for some reason, decided to pursue something. then they, in turn, did something very similar. why not? what else is there to do? we all need hobbies.
this becomes the INSTITUTION.
then is born the expert. the academic. the critic. the hepcat. another “expert” follower who applies the dogma of the perceived orthodox order to anyone who dares do anything unfashionable. THE DEFENSE OF CIVILIZATION.
what does any of this mean? nothing.
THERE ARE SCHOOLS WHICH EDUCATE STUDENTS TO CHOOSE CULTURE APPROPRIATELY.
(as if that could be possible)
you are doing this purposeless thing INCORRECTLY! start over please.
how can a purposeless thing be done incorrectly, you ask? only the DEFENDERS OF CIVILIZATION hold the secret.
how do they know? because they have been told so. by other experts.
“No wonder we cannot appreciate the really central Kafka joke: that the horrific struggle to establish a human self results in a self whose humanity is inseparable from the horrific struggle. That our endless and impossible journey toward home is in fact our home.”—David Foster Wallace, Consider the Lobster: And Other Essays (via: mianoti & ohnonotme)
everything is accelerating too quickly. i feel overwhelmed by it all. either i want to scream or i want to feel nothing. nothing profound. nothing original. nothing beautiful. i sometimes think that the only thing you can do is fight. i don’t think i want to fight. i’m just tired of it all. but a the same time, my rejection of the fight is rooted in the fight. an angry peace. a peaceful rage.
i’m melodramatic, i know. i can’t help it. it’s my nature.
